Public Education
Kidney Health Alliance of Kentucky is committed to helping increase awareness of kidney disease. This is accomplished through the following programs:
Sidney the Kidney Classroom Education Program
Sidney and trained volunteers visit classrooms and school and civic events to share basic kidney awareness education.
Speaking Engagements
Speakers are provided to local churches, civic organizations and schools to share information about kidney disease, the importance of early detection and organ donation.
Sidney Free Kidney Disease Screening
KHAKY volunteers are available for kidney disease screenings at health fairs, church and civic events. These screenings may include a blood pressure check, blood glucose test, and a 10 point urinalysis. Results are provided within minutes.
O’Meara Kidney Health Screening
Named after a KHAKY volunteer who lost his battle with kidney disease, this program offers employers an employee screening on site at the workplace. The screening includes a blood pressure check and 10 point urinalysis. Confidential results are provided to the employee at the screening. Employers are asked to donate $20/employee screened to help offset the cost of the screening.
